Call for Papers: Special Issue: Intelligent Systems for Smart Automation and Self-Optimization of Industry 4.0

SI: Intelligent Systems for Smart Automation and Self-Optimization of Industry 4.0

Today Industry 4.0 is expected to increase productivity, customisation, automation, flexibility and quality of products. We will witness more computerised and digital tools using intelligent systems widely used to achieve the intended results. Primarily, intelligent system tools are used in decision-making processes in a complex work environment. Intelligent tools and software’s are applied in different domains of almost every sector of Industry 4.0. The wide use of intelligent systems is due to the wide availability of technologies like AI, IoT, and cloud computing. In the manufacturing industries, intelligent systems are applied in intelligent manufacturing, which involves producing goods using smart sensors, intelligent devices and advanced decision-making models. These devices process the data with analytical tools and optimise production and transaction. One of the advantages of intelligent systems is the integration of human-machine interaction with which various levels of operating an industry can be combined. The real-time data collection feature of intelligent systems enables data collection and transfer between tools, industrial workers and materials. They also permit the flow of information regarding the production, transport of products and transaction details to ensure visibility and traceability.

Intelligent systems also play a role in enterprise-resource planning systems. Other applications of intelligent systems are automation in production, industrial connectivity, adaptive manufacturing systems and wireless communication. In service-oriented industries, intelligent systems are used in chatbots, cyber security and interconnected devices. Cyber-physical systems developed with intelligent algorithms operate to integrate machines, electronics, software and other devices, thus enabling machine-to-machine interaction quickly. The continuous assistance given to the machines through artificial and intelligent control systems reduces potential risks to people and property in the industries. Many countries worldwide have already adopted intelligent systems for smart designing, smart monitoring and smart production of goods in the industry 4.0 transitions. As these systems use data for intelligent decision-making, the possibility for errors is significantly minimised. More attention to industry 4.0 increases the opportunity for intelligent systems for manufacturing and supply chain management and other managerial tasks in the industrial sector. Collaboration of new and advanced technologies is transforming traditional industrial practices.
