Special Issue (2026-01-01): AI-Driven Vision Systems and Intelligent Control in Robotics

Background
The vision systems are changing robotics by allowing machines to sense, analyze and react to their surroundings independently with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In contrast to the traditional systems that use fixed programming, AI-based vision incorporates innovative computer vision algorithms and Deep Learning (DL) methods to identify entities, identify challenges and analyze the spatial relationships in real-time. These systems make use of visual input that is processed by Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and feature extractors to support robots to detect patterns, track movements and determine dynamic environments with great accuracy. Combining perception and decision-making, AI-based vision enables robots to change with the surroundings, navigate the intricate space and perform tasks that demand precision and awareness of the situation. The action of the robots is informed, context-sensitive and goal-oriented through continuous feedback of vision sensors. The combination of perception and cognition that underlies intelligent robotic behavior and preconditions future advanced autonomous systems.
In addition, smart control systems provide supplementary AI-based vision with the conversion of sensory data into accurate and adaptive responses. These systems use Reinforcement Learning (RL) and adaptive control techniques to continuously optimize the movements based on real-time feedback on the environment. Moreover, vision and intelligent control allow the context-sensitive decision-making, dynamic planning of trajectories and responsive manipulation or navigation.
However, such capability requires a cautious sensor calibration, optimization of algorithms and resilient processing structures to remain stable in unpredictable circumstances. The combination of AI vision and smart control results in robots that have a sense of perception, analysis and action that is efficient and reliable. Through these technologies, modern robotics achieves enhanced precision, adaptability and autonomous operation that characterizes the advance of intelligent automation. Furthermore, AI-based vision systems and smart control make robotics flexible responsive systems that can execute complex tasks with minimal supervision and are transitioning from rigid, preprogrammed mechanisms to adaptive autonomous systems.
Despite the immense potential of AI-based vision systems and intelligent control systems in advancing modern robotics technologies, there are several challenges to be addressed to realize fully autonomous and adaptive vision systems.
Aim
The primary objective of this SI is to aims to highlight recent advances and spread awareness on advanced research on AI-based robotic technologies to improve perception, decision-making and action through advanced vision systems, DL methods, adaptive control methods and online environmental feedback. Such research is essential to realize precise, flexible and reliable robotic systems to execute complex operations with minimal supervision.
